Thick Film Laser Trimmer – LT500
Key Features
- Dedicated thick film laser trimming system
- Micron level laser positioning using precision motion and beam deflection
- Integrated electrical measurement supporting closed loop trimming
- Configurable laser sources to suit thick film materials and trim geometries
- Automation ready platform for stand alone or inline production use
The LT500 Thick Film Laser Trimmer from Photonics Systems Group is built for precise and repeatable laser trimming of resistors, sensors and thick film hybrid circuits. It is used where electrical parameters must be accurately set after fabrication, enabling tight tolerances and improved device consistency.
The platform combines high precision motion, beam deflection and vision support to position laser pulses on the material being processed, with integrated measurement options to support closed loop trimming routines, allowing components to be trimmed to their specified target value.
LT500 Trimming Capability
The LT500 supports both passive and active thick film trimming applications. Passive trimming adjusts resistors to a defined resistance value, while active trimming allows live circuits to be calibrated to a functional output such as voltage or frequency, depending on the measurement configuration.
Real time feedback between the laser process and the integrated measurement system enables controlled material removal and repeatable trim results.
Precision Positioning and Vision Alignment
The LT500 uses a high precision stage system combined with beam deflection to position individual laser pulses with µm accuracy. This enables fine trim geometries and consistent results across thick film substrates.
A high resolution camera system is integrated for component registration and alignment, supporting accurate setup and repeatable trimming of production parts.
Measurement and Software Control
An integrated high precision electrical measurement system, enables closed loop trimming routines and improved resistance measurement accuracy.
Software control includes advanced job handling and configurable trim logic, allowing the system to be adapted to different thick film designs, trim strategies and production requirements.
Automation and production integration
The LT500 is designed for use in both laboratory and production environments. Automation options support stand alone operation or inline integration into manufacturing lines, enabling higher throughput trimming of thick film components.
Substrate handling and automation configurations can be tailored to production requirements, with handling fully integrated into the system control software.

Further Information
What is Thick Film Laser Trimming
Thick film laser trimming is a precision calibration process used to accurately set the electrical values of resistors, sensors and hybrid circuits after manufacture. A focused laser removes small amounts of resistive material while the electrical value is measured in real time, allowing components to be trimmed to their specified target.
The process supports both passive trimming to a defined resistance value and active trimming of live circuits to a functional output, improving consistency and performance in high reliability electronic applications.
Key characteristics of thick film laser trimming:
- Non contact laser process for precise post manufacture calibration
- Real time electrical measurement during material removal
- Suitable for passive and active trimming applications
- Improves tolerance control and device performance consistency
