NWL200 Wafer Loader Key Features

  • Designed for semiconductor wafer inspection and automated handling
  • Integrates with the Nikon Eclipse L200N and LV150N microscopes
  • Supports 6″ (150mm) and 8″ (200mm) diameter wafers
  • Thin wafer handling capability down to 100µm
  • Non-contact wafer centering for precise positioning without contact
  • Ergonomic design and cleanroom optimised

Precision Handling and Inspection for Semiconductor Wafers:

The NWL200 is a sophisticated wafer loader designed for seamless integration with Nikon’s Eclipse L200N and LV150N microscopes. This solution is ideal for semiconductor manufacturers and research laboratories requiring accurate, efficient inspection and defect analysis of 150mm and 200mm wafers.

A multi-arm loader and non-contact centring mechanism ensure rapid, accurate wafer alignment and exchange, significantly reducing cycle times and boosting throughput. An optimised sensor beam arrangement detects wafer distortion and aborts unsafe transfers.

The system supports macro inspection of wafer front-side patterns, back periphery, and centre areas. Rotation speed and tilt angle can be adjusted automatically or manually, allowing for flexible inspection setups. In the event of a power interruption, the vacuum chuck remains active, ensuring safe wafer retention and removal..

Semiconductor Inspection Microscopes:

The Nikon Eclipse LV150N, designed for processing 150mm wafers, and the L200N, optimised for 200mm wafers, are both high-performance upright microscopes built for episcopic inspection of semiconductors, industrial components, and advanced materials. Featuring modular architecture, advanced optics, and a wide range of contrast techniques, the systems deliver outstanding imaging precision and flexibility for demanding inspection environments.

When combined with Nikon’s Digital Sight camera series and NIS-Elements imaging software, the microscopes enable multidimensional image capture, measurement, and analysis, supporting both manual and automated workflows.

LV150N & L200N Key Features:

  • USB Communication: Intelligent control of objective lens, illumination, and aperture settings via USB interface.
  • CFI60-2 Optical Series: Offers high-contrast imaging modes including brightfield, darkfield, polarisation (POL), differential interference contrast (DIC), and double beam interferometry.
  • Digital Integration: Seamlessly connects to Nikon’s Digital Sight cameras and NIS-Elements software for image capture, analysis, and microscope control.
  • Ergonomic Design: Adjustable eye-tube angles and front-mounted controls reduce operator fatigue and streamline workflow.
  • Contamination Control: Antistatic coatings and debris-trapping nosepiece minimise sample contamination during inspection.
  • Optical Target Focusing: Built-in optical target enables fast, accurate focusing on low-contrast samples such as bare wafers.
  • Long Working Distance: Phase Fresnel lens elements provide extended working distance without compromising image clarity.

What is Brightfield Inspection:

Brightfield is the most common microscopy technique. It illuminates the sample from below and captures light that passes through it. Areas that absorb more light appear darker, making it ideal for observing stained or naturally pigmented specimens.

What is Darkfield Inspection:

Darkfield uses angled illumination so that only scattered light from the sample enters the objective lens. This creates a bright image of the specimen against a dark background, enhancing visibility of edges, fine structures, and transparent samples.

What is Polorisation:

Polarisation microscopy uses polarised light to detect optical anisotropy in materials. It’s especially useful for inspecting crystalline structures, stress patterns in transparent materials, and birefringent samples like polymers or minerals.

What is Differential Interference Contrast (DIC):

DIC enhances contrast in unstained, transparent specimens by using interference patterns created from split light beams. It produces a pseudo-3D effect, making fine surface details and edges more visible without staining.

What is Double Beam Interferometry:

This advanced technique splits light into two beams that travel different paths and then recombine. Variations in the sample cause phase shifts, which are detected as interference patterns. It’s ideal for measuring surface flatness, thickness variations, and microstructural changes with high precision.
